SEX OFFENDERS PLACED ON REGISTRY WEBSITE QUICKER

The House Public Safety Committee adopted a bill this week that will place information about sex offenders on the state's sex offender registry website quicker. House Study Bill 509 repeals the requirement that risk assessments need to be done before a convicted sex offender is placed on the state's sex offender registry website.

The bill means that any person convicted of a covered sex offense would be put on the website. To date, only those assessed as moderate or high risk to re-offend were placed on the website. The website for Iowa's sex offender registry is: www.iowasexoffenders.com.
